Thrifty Rapid City launched in October of 2008 - the brainchild of sisters Amy and Natalie. Natalie, in awe of her sister's frugality, constantly bothered Amy for tips on how to save money (and time) while still enjoying life. Amy, fed up with Natalie constantly asking for information, decided that if she was going to share her knowledge with one person - she might as well share it with many. Thrifty Rapid City exists to help those who live in the Black Hills Area make the most of their money and their experiences. With weekly shopping lists, coupons, and articles to help you save money - you've got nothing to lose (and money back in your pocket!) by joining the Thrifty Rapid City Community. Browse around, print coupons, check out our links, and share our URL with friends. Lets make our City a Thrifty City!

Thrifty Rapid City Says Goodbye PDF Print E-mail
Written by Amy

You may or may not know that this website is run by two sisters who are stay-at-home mothers of three kids under six - each. It's been a fun hobby for us to share our thrifty ways, but we lack the time to turn this into a full-fledged business (selling advertising space with three little kids in tow - not me!). One of us is feeling the crunch of taking on projects within her family's design business, the other is desiring to pour more energy into planning and executing a truly delightful year of homeschool kindergarten. And we just don't have the time to do all of this work "for fun" anymore.

I (Amy) went on vacation from Thrifty Rapid City last month hoping to come back re-energized and ready to take this site to the next level. Instead, I found that my heart is not in this anymore and I really lack the motivation to return to regular posting. Thank you, thank you for all of the feedback and participation over these many months. It has been a pleasure meeting some of you and learning that there is a great thrifty community in Rapid City.

We're not ready to say "goodbye forever". We will remain available to speak to groups on all manner of thrifty topics. If your group is interested in learning how to slash their grocery budgets or how to be thrifty AND happy, drop me an email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . And maybe, just maybe, one of you savvy shoppers has the drive we lack to turn this site into something great. If you are interested in taking over Thrifty Rapid City (this would involve purchasing the domain name and taking over hosting fees, among other things), please email my sister Natalie: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Remember that there are many other resources on the web to help you in your thrifty journey. I linked some sites in the post below that can help you with local grocery shopping. We also have a whole section of the site dedicated to "links" that we have found useful. Just because we're done with this website doesn't mean that we won't be thrifty anymore! And we hope you'll keep on keeping on as well. God bless you all!

Thrifty Rapid City Takes a Vacation PDF Print E-mail

Christmas is almost here and I'm ready to sit back and gaze in delight at my full pantry and freezer. A little break from bargain-hunting sounds pretty good! The benefit of stocking my shelves at rock-bottom prices is that from time to time I can take a vacation from shopping. I hope you can join me!

If your pantry can't take the hit, however, here are some links to help you with your bargain-shopping until I post the deals again in 2010!

Walgreens deals can be found at MoneySaving Mom

Safeway deals can be found at Springs Bargains

Family Thrift Center deals are not found anywhere that I'm aware of, but their ad is available online here

If you have any great tips or inspiring stories I can share in lieu of my own posts, please email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . And keep the forums hopping!

Thanks to all of our loyal readers and have a Merry Christmas!
